Scientist say the sap from the leaves may help bacteria to survive and grow, causing a potential hazard to health.
Studies show, sap or discharge from the damaged leaves can increase the growth of pathogenic 2.400 times faster and increase the ability of pathogen to cause disease to us.

Hazard risk also increased, because the sap on the leaf makes the bacteria became so attached to leaves, even though wash, you can't clean of all the bacteria.

"Salmonella can grow on moist surfaces even in the water, even when it is cooled. Have been a number of outbreaks associated with fresh salad products contaminated with Salmonella and E. coli in recent years." He said

Dr Kimon Andreas Karatzas, Professor's Assistant of Food Microbiology at the University of Reading, said, "Consumers should not forget that foodborne pathogens can be deadly. Salmonella can survive and thrive in fresh produce like salad."
"However, to avoid the fresh product is not a solution, so it would be better to buy vegetables that are still very fresh and properly washed before you eat."

Julie Ashmore, from the Institute of Food Science and Technology, said, "You don't have to stop eating salad, just pretty sure the salad is fresh and clean."
